Mr. Matthew Grupp is the managing attorney of the Grupp Law Firm, PLLC. He helps families of substantial net worth successfully protect and manage their wealth through comprehensive and integrated legal, tax, wealth strategies, and family governance programs. His experience and training allows him to help his clients protect their families by successfully navigating the added complexity wealth introduces into their lives.
Grupp’s practice model encourages a high degree of collaboration with his clients, their family members, and their other trusted legal, tax, and investment advisors to design and administer comprehensive and integrated wealth strategies and family governance programs to preserve, protect, and promote family legacies and to promote charities of his client’s choosing.
The firm’s main office is located in Jackson, Wyoming, with a second office in Post Falls, Idaho.
Grupp has an experienced background in business, tax, and wealth strategy services. He began his career working in Mergers & Acquisitions and became a Senior Tax Manager working in both the Los Angeles and San Francisco offices of Deloitte & Touche, LLP where he was employed from 1997-2005. During that time, his practice focused on designing and implementing tax strategies for corporate acquisitions, dispositions, spin-offs, joint ventures, financings, reorganizations & restructurings for many leading Fortune 500 companies and private equity firms. Representative clients included Fidelity National Financial, Dole Food, Washington Mutual, Pacificare Health, Texas Pacific Group, the Geneva Companies, and the Yucaipa Companies.
In 2005, Grupp went into private practice and founded The Grupp Law Firm, PLLC, with a primary focus on the needs of ultra-high net worth families and closely held business owners. To this purpose he engages in income and estate tax planning, asset protection, business exit planning, trust and estate settlement, fiduciary representation and services, and the organization and administration of Wyoming Private Trust Companies.
Education and Licensure:
Grupp graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Classical Languages (Greek & Latin) from the University of Montana in 1993. He completed his first year of Law School at The Catholic University of America in 1994 and received his J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law in 1996. He continued on to earn an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law in 1997. He is currently licensed to practice Law in Wyoming, Idaho, and New York.
